Lilja

Kris 'Curtiz' De Meester

A series of original Polaroid photos.

Curtiz:

In the series "Lilja," I embark on a playful and unconventional exploration of the intricate dynamics that shape relationships, using humor and absurdity to shed light on the fragile nature of human connections. This collection of Polaroid-based storyboards whimsically captures the essence of a once-promising romance's gradual dissolution, ingeniously fusing banal arguments with a touch of absurdity.

While the subject of a beautiful young woman remains constant, the scenarios evolve dramatically. These meticulously staged "murder scenes" unfold in various locales, each capturing the essence of an everyday argument magnified to absurd proportions. From a "toe" wielded as an imaginary weapon to a "salmon" unexpectedly at the center of discord, these scenes transform mundane objects into theatrical catalysts for humor and reflection.

While the title "Lilja" suggests the allure of initial attraction, each playful tableau encapsulates the decline of this enchantment into a whimsical, farcical realm. As viewers engage with the series, they're invited to ponder the universal truth that relationships, no matter how promising, are often tested and transformed by the most unexpected and seemingly insignificant conflicts.

Ultimately, "Ilja" is a testament to the multifaceted nature of love, drawing inspiration from the everyday and transforming it into a tapestry of comedic scenes. Through this lighthearted lens, I seek to celebrate the resilience of human connection in the face of discord and to embrace the humorous aspects of the human experience that often go unnoticed.
